Gateway launched “Project Green” on St Patrick’s Day 17 March 2008.  Staff participated in an open forum to discuss ways Gateway could reduce its carbon footprint.

What we are doing now…

  • Recycling printer cartridges
  • Using 2 recycling bins in common breakout area
  • Ensuring all equipment is turned off at the end of the day
  • Purchasing high star ratings on our white goods
  • Ensuring our computers switch to sleep mode when inactive
  • Recycling where ever possible
  • Providing each workstation with a recycling bin and not an all purpose bin for waste
  • Implementing electronic documentation
  • Offering eStatements to Members for their banking statements

What you can do at home …

  • Turn your computer off when you are not using it
  • Turn all power points off even when there is nothing connected
  • Fix dripping hot water taps
  • Recycle all household waste that can be by using council bins as specified
  •  Installing efficient light tubes and fixtures
  • Turn all lights off when they are not required e.g. if no one is in the room
  • Don’t overheat your home 18-21 degrees is sufficient
  • During winter, where possible use gas heaters over electric heaters and only heat rooms you are using
  • Shop online and buy environmentally friendly gifts/products
  • Visit Energy Australia to see how you can make a difference
  • If you have to fly be it for pleasure or work, why not participate in carbon offset schemes offered by airlines?
  • Use cold water in your washing machine
  • Get rid of that extra fridge which stores your alcohol, just add a few bottles and or cans to your main fridge
  • Opt for electronic statements for bills and banking to save paper and space in your home
