Paul Thomas became Gateway’s CEO in March 2005 after an impressive track record in financial services spanning almost three decades including significant success in the retail banking and funds management sectors.
He was first exposed to credit unions in 1983 and this proved to be a life changing event. He went on to become the youngest credit union general manager in Australia and then spent the next 12 years working in various executive roles for the national credit union association (CUSCAL) Prior to joining Gateway Paul was General Manager, Alliances & Strategic Partnerships, for Bridges Financial Services, a financial planning company closely associated with credit unions.
A credit union “lifer” with a strong commercial focus, Paul is delighted that he has come back to his roots actually running a credit union. He is passionate about Gateway’s “people helping people” philosophy and believes that credit unions must constantly change while forever staying the same.
An accomplished public speaker and writer, Paul’s credentials include a MBA with distinction and a Diploma in Financial Services.
